But you can’t cook and you also want to connect with people outside the university? Then let our study guide guide you through the food hotspots and pamper your palate. From places for your lunch date and special takeaways for the typical student to the most beautiful spots as well as the vegan and vegetarian restaurants, there is something for every newcomer.

LUNCH DATES & SPECIAL SNACKS

You want to connect and spend your lunch breaks in style and preferably inexpensive, then let yourself be inspired: centrally or directly near the university, everyone will find what they are looking for here:

MENSA SAARBRÜCKEN

Classic but not to be forgotten are the canteens directly on campus. Whether at the Rothenbühl campus, Alt-Saarbrücken or at the University of Saarland: For every student a good point of contact for an inexpensive lunch so that the synapses are fit again for the further lectures. Here there are changing menus with salads and dessert, bright open spaces and in summer there are also seats outside the 4 walls. The prices for the students here are approximately €3.00 per dish.

ARIAN-GRILL-PARKHAUS (Parkdeck)

Or better known as the „Parkdeck-Döner“. Is one of the cult snack stalls in Saarbrücken. Inexpensive, delicious and available at any time of the day. Whether to learn, because it has to be fast again and there is no desire to cook, or after a full night you will find what you are looking for there, central, as the name suggests, at the parking garage in the middle of the city at the town hall (Großherzog-Friedrich-Straße).

In addition to the conventional kebab, the parking deck doner also has the entire repertoire of a good snack bar: fries, pasta dishes such as Rigatoni red/white or pizza, there is a lot here.

KALINSKI WURSTWIRTSCHAFT

You are in the mood for currywurst but classic is too boring for you and should it still be inexpensive? Then you have to try the best currywurst in Germany, the „Kalinski“ currywurst! And you won’t get it anywhere less than in the beautiful Saarbrücken in our Futtergasse.

Between 3.90€ and 10.90€ there is something for everyone from the classic currywurst with/without fries to grilled sausage to pulled pork and even a vegan burger and there are also different toppings. Good to know: seating and drinks as well.

BESONDERES AMBIENTE

If you like it a little more exclusive and maybe want to meet with friends or fellow students in the evening, there are also a few „MUST-TASTE“ restaurants in Saarbrücken:

ROSENBAR-WINE & LUNCH

Friends of wine and the special ambience pay attention. Inconspicuous, there is a small oasis in the middle of Saarbrücken with the possibility to enjoy a dinner in the evening. In Dudweiler-Straße, in a former pharmacy to be exact. The interior is largely listed and therefore still offers the ambience of the pharmacy, in a vintage style. If you prefer to eat outside in the fresh air and enjoy the drinks in summer, a beautiful outdoor terrace including pool invites you to relax. There is something for everyone about the food. From tapas, to pasta, meat dishes such as schnitzel or steak and various salads, there is something for everyone. Vegan or vegetarian are also on the menu. Psst: Even the aioli is vegan. You can also try a large selection of wines or try the cocktail menu together. If you are drunk then, there will be something to eat again to sober out.

YEDO

“ Food like the emperor in old Tokyo“ that is the motto of the restaurant YEDO. Right in the heart of Saarbrücken – on the St.Johanner Markt there are delicious dishes of Asian cuisine. Whether sushi, salad or fried shrimp, every lover of such dishes will find what they are looking for here. The restaurant is open 7 days a week. Monday-Thursday and Sunday from 12:00-23:00 and Friday-Saturday from 12:00 – 00:00.

GOOD TO KNOW – VEGANE ALTERNATIVEN

The restaurants already mentioned also offer vegan alternatives. But if you are looking for a large offer and maybe even exclusively vegan, then there is inspiration for you here:

LUUC

In Café Luuc there is not only breakfast and delicious cakes but also a large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Whether for lunch or dinner, because the restaurant in Türkenstraße is open from Monday to Sunday. Exact times can be found here. In a cozy atmosphere you can enjoy fresh, homemade bowls, burgers and hummus plates. If you want a little extra side dish, there are also sweet potato fries.
