Do you just want to switch off a bit after university or go for a drink with your friends? Or are you in the exam phase and need a break? Then I’ll introduce you to a few bars/pubs near the market square! Because as we all know – those who have had a few beers the night before the exam have a better memory and are proven to perform better! The 3 bars/pubs I’m going to introduce here are all within easy reach. The Rathaus, Johanneskirche and Landwehrplatz stops are all just a few minutes‘ walk from the destinations.

General information: All the places presented are very cosmopolitan and yet different in their concept. There is something for every taste in this guide!

Tante Anna

The Anna is a very popular place for students, but all generations come together here.

Here you can see the outdoor terrace of the pub „Tante Anna“. There are 4 chairs in front of the windows and above are a colorful fairy lights.

If you like getting to know new bands, this bar is perfect for you – small concerts take place here several times a month. The bar is located not far from the market square in the centre of Saarbrücken, at Türkenstraße 3 to be precise. The prices are very attractive, especially for students, and the menu offers a wide range of drinks.

Fun fact: If you want to order a „cola“ beer in the Anna, the staff will tell you off. Because they only serve beer here, no mixes! That’s the law in the Anna.

Synop

You can see the entry to the pub „Synop“. Next to the door are two lamps and to different signs. One shows the opening hours of the day and the other one a saying.

Synop is also located in the centre of Saarbrücken, at the beginning of Mainzer Straße (Mainzer Str.1). The bar is particularly popular with students and offers unusual drinks. Each bar owner has created their own drink and these can be found on a special menu – there is definitely something for everyone here. The unusual furnishings and staff reflect the character of Synops. In summer, the outdoor area in the back courtyard is also a great place for an after-work cocktail. Various events and functions are also regularly organised here.

Shotz

You’re not the biggest beer lover or you like to have a few shots before going to the club? Then the Shotz Bar is just the place for you! With a selection of over 200 different creations, there’s something for everyone here. There are also various special offers on most days to attract even more students. The staff are also happy to help you find the right flavour and won’t hesitate to tell you what to choose. You will find the bar not far from Marktplatz at Fröschengasse 6.
