Tips for sucessful socialising in Saarbrücken
Moving to a new city not only brings exciting adventures, but also the thrilling opportunity to meet new people and make romantic connections. Are you longing for new acquaintances and exciting dates? Then you’ve come to the right place, because here you’ll find out how to not only gain a social foothold in Saarbrücken, but also how to master the dating game with ease. Let’s explore the art of socialising in a new city together!
Ways to meet poeple
For extroverts, the easiest way is to simply go out and explore local meeting places. Cafés, bars and parks are often ideal places to meet people in a relaxed atmosphere and have spontaneous conversations.
Community events
Local community events, festivals and markets are often organised in Saarbrücken, especially in summer. These events not only promote community, but also offer numerous opportunities to meet new people. There is something for every taste.
For film fans, for example, the Max Ophüls Festival takes place every January and honours up-and-coming filmmakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Another festival that takes place every two years in March is the Saar Dance Festival. It is organised by the Saarland State Theatre and brings top-class contemporary dance artists to Saarland.
For people who are interested in Franco-German stage art, the Perspective Festival takes place every year at Whitsun. This brings together artists from the entire border region who entertain the audience with performances from theatre, circus, acrobatics and more.

Other popular summer festivals in Saarbrücken include Christopher Street Day, the Osthafenfest, the Altstadtfest, the Nauwieser Fest and the Saar-Spektakel. In November and December, a visit to the Saarbrücken Christmas market should of course also be included to make new friends over a delicious mulled wine. The best way to find out about current events is on social media.
Classes and clubs
Sign up for sports or fitness classes to not only be active, but also to find like-minded people. This not only creates a healthy routine, but also an opportunity to make new friends. The Saarbrücken Adult Education Centre offers a wide range of courses of all kinds.

Also, consider joining local clubs as a way to meet people with similar interests. Whether it’s a book club, an art community or an environmental protection project, these organisations offer regular meetings and events. One example of this is the Kunstverein Saar.
Uni-parties
However, if you need a little more action and like to party, you should try your luck at a party organised by the ASTA of Saarland University. At the beginning of each semester, the legendary ASTA semester opening parties take place on the UdS campus. The ASTA Campus Festival also takes place in summer. The advantage here is that only students and young people are there and some of them have just moved here. Good music and a cocktail or two also lighten the mood, which often makes it easier to strike up a conversation. Click on the Instagram button for more information

Dating-Apps
If you prefer to meet new people from home or are too shy to approach someone, you should consider using dating apps. Tinder and/or Bumble are best suited for this, as they are used by most people and are easy to use. In the following video, I introduce you to the Bumble app in more detail. As you can see at the beginning of the video, there are three modes: date mode, friend mode and business mode. In the video, the date mode was chosen. You can then upload up to six pictures of yourself and provide some information about yourself. It is also important to always state what you hope to get out of a potential date so that there are no misunderstandings.
Date idea
The Stengelbrunnen fountain at St. Johanner Markt in the heart of Saarbrücken is the perfect meeting place for dates. There are many bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity where you can have a good time. You can also take a walk along the Saar to the Staden.

You can see a possible route for a walk on this map. It leads from the fountain, past the Saarland State Theatre to the banks of the Saar.
The first seating options are located in the park by the state theatre. In summer, however, the park is also perfect for a picnic.

After about 15 minutes on foot along the banks of the Saar, you will reach the Ulanen Pavilion. If the weather is good, you can buy something to drink or eat there and sit down for a relaxed chat. The beer garden and Ulanen Grill open at around 11 a.m. in summer and close at 11.30 p.m. at the latest, depending on how busy it is.

Whichever way you decide to go, the main thing is to be open, friendly and curious. New connections can be made anywhere if you are prepared to take advantage of the opportunities offered by your new city. Good luck meeting new people and discovering your new neighbourhood!
